Red Velvet Cake

Historically, this southern treat is rumored to have been birthed in New Orleans, Lousiana by French settlers. It was known as Red Feather Cake however as cultural migration grew it was adopted as Red Velvet Cake.  Red Velvet Cake is a smooth and very moist dessert laced with cream cheese butter cream frosting. Red Velvet Cake is truly chocolate cake! Here’s why: the ingredients calls for eggs, sugar, butter, milk, vinegar, flour, red food coloring, and unsweetened cocoa powder. The red food coloring and cocoa powder is mixed into a paste and added to the vanilla like cake batter. Voila! You have a chocolate cake posing as a vanilla cake. But who cares right as long as it tastes good! I haven’t met an individual that didn’t like Southern Red Velvet Cake.
